Sidestage Improv was created in Spring 2011 by Mike McFarland and Marina Mastros, two veteran improvisors seeking an alternative, longform-oriented venue in San Diego. Charles Webber joined the fray soon after, and they currently do their damndest to make sure that talented teams can strut their stuff with dependable regularity. If you’re looking for a memorable night of laughs, our events are pretty much the best value in town. If you’ve yet to spend an evening with us, don’t miss our show and find out what you’ve been missing. If you’re an improvisor, Sidestage Improv is a great chance to meet other folks that love the make-em-ups just as much as you do. We offer fantastic opportunities to perform, network and talk shop. We’d love to hear from you.   Mike McFarland is Sidestage Improv’s artistic director and co-founder, and has been teaching and performing improv professionally for over a decade. In San Diego, Mike has directed multiple long-running shows at the National Comedy Theatre, including The Midnight Show and The Collective.  He currently performs with MAG-Five and is one-half of the longform duo, Mike & Chris. He moonlights as a photographer and typist.     Marina Mastros is Sidestage Improv’s co-founder and biggest fan. She is in advanced study at UCB and continues at iO West after graduating iO Chicago’s intensive program. Previously, Marina performed with the National Comedy Theatre’s mainstage team for eight years, and directed their College Team for five. She performs in Los Angeles with Count Gumdrop, More More More, and musical team, Will Call. She hopes for a Partial Credit reunion. Marina earned her B.A. in Literature/Writing at UC San Diego, and holds an M.A. in Rhetoric and Writing from SDSU.   Charles Webber is the creative director of Sidestage Improv, as well as its voice of reason.  He began improvising in 2007, and shortly thereafter  joined the National Comedy Theatre as a member of the main-stage  company.  He can currently be found performing with Startup Rivals and MAG-Five. Understanding Online Privacy for Technicians – Joe Kissell (Service Track) Most tech people know intuitively how to avoid many common threats to online privacy. You use good passwords, connect to a VPN when you’re out of the office, and encrypt sensitive data. You wouldn’t click a link in a suspicious email message, download a file from a site that’s likely to bundle malware, or use FTP on an open Wi-Fi network. But your customers may not be so clueful. They may come to you after they’ve already gotten themselves in trouble (like sharing photos online that should have been private), or they may be excessively paranoid and ask for the unreasonable or impossible (like deleting an ill-advised email message they already sent).
